Three Women and a Boat [9780857527097]

(No reviews yet) Write a Review

Anne Youngson's new novel THREE WOMEN AND A BOAT has all the hallmarks of her debut novel, MEET ME AT THE MUSEUM - an uplifting, layered story, oodles of charm - and bite - scenes of female friendship later in life, new experiences and second chances, wrapped up in a journey of self-discovery.

Eve and Sally, two strangers ('neither young nor old') meet unexpectedly on a tow path in front of a narrowboat after breaking into it to release a distressed dog. They find themselves agreeing to drive the boat with the dog up the canals of England and down again, on behalf of another woman they have only just met. The woman in question, Anastasia, owner of the narrowboat, needs to stick around in town for serious medical tests. Eve and Sally, who know next to nothing about canals or about each other, drive the boat up to Chester and down again, gliding oh-so slowly through the English countryside. They meet a variety of fascinating strangers, and on returning, face their own situations with renewed confidence and fresh eyes.

ANNE YOUNGSON' s new novel is Harold Fry on a canal boat, with all the sensitive insight into the human heart, the gentle humour, the darker times, and the astonishing revelations about the human condition that come with wisdom and age.
AUTHOR: ANNE YOUNGSON worked for many years in senior management in the car industry before embarking on a creative career as a writer. She has supported many charities in governance roles, including Chair of the Writers in Prison Network, which provided residencies in prisons for writers. She lives in Oxfordshire and is married with two children and three grandchildren to date. MEET ME AT THE MUSEUM, her debut novel, was shortlisted for the Costa Best First Novel Award and is now published around the world
