The Salt Path: The uplifting true story. [9781405937184]

(4 reviews) Write a Review

The uplifting true story of the couple who lost everything and embarked on a journey of salvation across the windswept South West coastline.

THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, WINNER OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF LITERATURE CHRISTOPHER BLAND PRIZE & SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2018 COSTA BIOGRAPHY AWARD & WAINWRIGHT GOLDEN BEER BOOK PRIZE 2018

In one devastating week, Raynor and her husband Moth lost their house and received a terminal diagnosis that took away their future together. With nowhere to call home, they instead embarked on a journey: to walk the South West Coast Path, a 630-mile sea-swept trail from Somerset to Dorset, via Devon and Cornwall. This ancient, wind-battered landscape lays them bare, stripping away every comfort they have ever known.

With almost no money for food or shelter, carrying the essentials for survival on their backs, they wild camp on beaches and clifftops. Until slowly, with every step, every encounter, and every test along the way, the walk sets them on a road of discovery.

They don't know how far they will travel, but unexpectedly, they find themselves on a path to freedom.

The Salt Path is an unflinchingly honest, inspiring and life-affirming true story about coming to terms with grief and the healing power of nature. Ultimately, it is a book about home, and how it can be lost, rebuilt, and rediscovered in the most unexpected of ways.
AUTHOR: Since travelling the South West Coastal Path, Raynor Winn has become a regular long-distance walker and writes about nature, homelessness and wild camping. She lives in Cornwall. This is her first book.

Abook that is about so much more than the walk. One to keep.

Invoked fond memories of the west country. Not sure I would have had the strength of character to tackle what life had thrown at them in that way. What a tower of strength they both showed. Hope they now have a good roof over their heads and a comfy bed to sleep in.

Great book, amazing what difficult situations people can deal with and took me back to holidays in Cornwall, definitely inspired to walk more!

Very realistic portrayal of overcoming the awful cowpats that life can throw at you. Like the way she keenly perceives how others see us, ouch.
