The Repair Shop: A Make Do and Mend Handbook [9781785944604]

(10 reviews) Write a Review

Which glue should you use to mend a cracked vase? How do you colour match the varnish when restoring your old desk? How can you fix a favourite armchair that's sagging, or unpick your child's beloved, tattered teddy bear?

We all have items in our homes that sit about in a state of disrepair while we mull over how to fix them but never actually get round to it.

Direct from the Repair Shop's 'Workshop of Dreams', this one-stop practical guide will help you repair and maintain those ageing treasures and heirlooms around your house, stashed in the attic, or gathering dust in the garage.

From furniture and toys to ceramics and clothing, the Repair Shop experts will give you their tips and advice on the art of restoring and conserving everyday items, so you can give new life to your most prized possessions.

With clear step-by-step instructions and simple illustrations, they will show you how even the most battered of your cherished belongings can still be your new favourite thing.

    The Repair shop

Posted by Dr Michael Martin on 17th Nov 2020

A good read with good personal stories both of clients and experts.
I bought it for two reasons; firstly, I enjoy the program and can pick up technical tips, and secondly, in the hope of learning about specific repair materials. Sadly, that was not there. Was not expecting brand names, merely generic ideas.
Perhaps a follow up would be good.

    Repair Shop

Posted by Geoff on 2nd Jan 2020

I opened this anticipating a glimpse into a few tricks of the trade (not expecting all trade secrets to be revealed). I was ever so disappointed. There was nothing other than the vaguest instructions on how to go about jobs. The glossary is juvenile in the extreme. Easy to read in a couple of hours.

    Repair shop manual

Posted by shirley Bork on 24th Dec 2019

This doesn't give names of adhesives, paints, polishes or other things you need to know and where to obtain them. I'm a great fan of Repair Shop so most of the stories I already knew. Just a bit disappointed but great programme.
