Dare to be great
I did not get on with this at all. I gave up after 3/4. It didn’t inspire me at all. A great woman but this was self indulgent. Self praising and very boring.
This is a book unlike any other. It does not tell you what you must do, it does not set out a guide for the 10 definitive steps to becoming great by next Thursday - it does so much more than that.
Dare To Be Great explores how anyone can open pathways for themselves and for our society as a whole to become truly great.
Polly Higgins was a luminary in the fight for environmental justice and a beacon for how we can all live the brave, bold lives we imagine.
This book is a call to arms for the changing world in which we live - a world that needs our greatness now more than ever.
AUTHOR: World-renowned barrister and author Polly Higgins proposed to the United Nations that ecocide be made a crime - to prohibit mass damage and destruction. She was voted one of the World's Top 10 Visionary Thinkers, No. 35 in Salt Magazine's Top 100 Inspiring Women of the World and dubbed The People's Lawyer. Her story is a journey of facing something enormous and finding the keys and tools to unlock something even greater instead. Calling on leaders to step into their greatness, she realised that greatness begins with the self. A unique story, it is part self-learned, part self-unlearned. To break the cycles of harm playing out in the world, our ecocides, is to break the cycles of harm playing within ourselves. Polly was also the award-winning author of 'Eradicating Ecocide'. She passed away in April 2019 and her legacy is being continued by the Stop Ecocide group who are working at an international level to ratify the ecocide law in 2020 and by the work of Extinction Rebellion.

Polly Higgins writes as if she is in the room with you. You can't help but sit and 'listen' until the end. The book makes you get off your tosh and take some action to save this wonderful world we live in. I sincerely hope the Ecocide Law she so full heartedly fought for succeeds as a global law as it should - we need it. This is a fantastic read not just for anyone interested in environmentalism but for anyone wanting to move from sofa to action. You'll be a better person once you finish the book then you'll want to start it all over again.
It is good to have in the house and read some passages of it -it otherwise seems a bit much but it still is very powerful and I am glad we bought it just to dip into and to really enjoy those bits we read.
